In this very first letter to you, I have some heart-filling news to share. My memoir, Empathy Deficits: The Greatest Threat to Humans, has been named a Global Book Award Winner.

This award is a celebration of the warm light we find in coldness—a reminder that our true value lies in the empathy we carry for one another. I’ve learned that the joy we give away—whether it’s a smile that lights up a room or a hand reached out to help—is the only thing that truly stays with life.

Before you move on with your day, I invite you to take five seconds to set aside your worries. Think of one thing you truly love, and how you might invite it into your life every single day.

We have the verbs strive, aspire, and transform. We empathize, unite, and reach for a better life.
