Did you know there’s an Empathy Day? I believe life is most meaningful when every day is Empathy Day... a day to reflect on why we need to be compassionate toward one another.
— Chapter 18: Victim Shield
I remember witnessing a deeply challenging professional situation. It was a deliberate attempt to undermine a human, and in that moment, empathy was the only real solution.
When we face these empathy gaps in others, it’s easy to become defensive. However, I’ve learned that by monitoring our emotions and refocusing on our true values, we find a strength that doesn’t come from aggression but from clarity. Effectiveness in the face of conflict isn't about winning an argument; it’s about refusing to let someone else's lack of empathy dictate our worth.
It isn’t about neglect; we recognize what they did and why they try to diminish us, but we refuse to let it define us.
When we practice habits like 'Seeking First to Understand,' we transform our lived experiences into resilience. It is about how we show up—grounded in self-empathy—for one another every day.
Here, we share stories and reflections to stay compassionate in a modern world. Our voice exists in this universe. When we lead with a voice of empathy, that energy is retained: within us and between us.
If you know someone navigating a difficult season, please consider sharing this with them.
